About This Event
Join us for a complimentary cup of coffee at this informal presentation and discussion, part of our "Coffee Chats" series covering many aspects of Fort history.
During World War II, the Army located prisoner of war camps throughout the United States, including in Minnesota. We'll look at the communities that were selected to have POW facilities and how people reacted to having their enemy among them. We'll learn of the labor program initiated by the government in response to the lost labor of the men conscripted into the US Armed Forces. We'll also hear the personal stories of two prisoners who escaped and tried to row a homemade boat from northern Minnesota to New Orleans.
Join us to learn more about this lesser-known history on home soil in Minnesota and the US during WWII.
Be sure to check out our additional program topics and dates linked on the right of this page.
